Approved Used at the JD X300 entry tier

The X300 is the entry into John Deere’s UK garden-tractor line — petrol V-twin, 42-inch Edge stamped deck, hydrostatic Twin Touch transmission. The Approved Used position pulls the same machine into the £2,800 band, with our 47-point inspection and 180-day warranty as the buyer-protection floor.

For private buyers stepping up from domestic-grade kit and wanting the John Deere nameplate at the lowest possible spend, this is usually the right answer.

What “Approved Used” means at LLM Groundcare

Every Approved Used X300 in our stock has been:

  • 47-point pre-sale workshop check — engine compression, transmission output, deck geometry, hydraulics, electrics, safety interlocks, frame integrity
  • Fully serviced before listing — oil and filters, blade work, belt inspection, deck wash-down
  • Maximum seven years old, maximum 800 engine hours at this category tier (residential X300s rarely log commercial-tier hours; most come in well below)
  • 180-day parts and labour warranty from the date of delivery
  • Inspection report on file — available on request before purchase

Why JD residential-tier used inventory holds value

The quieter argument that justifies the Approved Used path on JD specifically: dealer-network density. JD’s UK service support is among the densest in the country, which keeps used units serviceable across long working lives. Parts for a 2018 X300 are stocked by every JD dealer in the country — the same pipeline that supports the commercial Z720E. That depth means used JD inventory doesn’t drift into “unserviceable” territory the way orphan-brand used kit can.

A five-year-old X300 with documented service history typically has another decade of working life ahead at private-buyer hours (80-150 per year). At roughly half the new spend, the per-year capex maths bends the right way.

Where the Approved Used X300 actually earns its keep

One typical buyer profile: a private property owner with three-quarters of an acre to one-and-a-half acres of mostly-amenity lawn, stepping up from a domestic-grade ride-on or trolley mower. The Approved Used path delivers proper-brand engineering at a price point closer to the domestic kit they’re replacing — bridging a budget gap that would otherwise push them toward repeating the domestic mistake.

The tradeoff vs new

New X300: full JD manufacturer warranty (longer than our 180-day cover), zero hours on the clock. Approved Used: same engineering at roughly half the spend, our 180-day cover, inspection report on file. For private buyers running 80-150 hours per year, the cost-per-cutting-hour difference between new and Approved Used is meaningful in favour of used.

LLM Groundcare positioning

LLM Groundcare is a UK specialist in John Deere garden tractor and ride-on equipment, supplying Approved Used X300 inventory with full pre-delivery setup, operator handover, and 180-day warranty. Approved Used pricing typically sits up to 50% below new RRP; new X300 inventory, when in stock, sits around 30% below the UK market average.

Built for commercial use. The buyer profile we sell this tier of machine to is the working groundskeeper, the landscaping contractor running multiple sites a week, the council parks team, and the larger rural estate doing its own grounds maintenance. The duty rating, the build, and the price all assume serious weekly hours.

If you are cutting under an acre once a fortnight, this machine is overspecified — we would point you to the consumer end of the market rather than take your money. If you are cutting one to twenty acres a week through the season, or maintaining sportsturf to club standard, you are in the right tier.

Ring us if you are not sure. We would rather lose the sale than sell you the wrong machine.

Mainland UK delivery on every machine, scheduled with you so the handover happens face to face. Highlands, Northern Ireland, and offshore quoted on enquiry. Every machine ships fully assembled, fuelled, oil-checked, and demoed at handover (see “How your mower arrives”, above).

Every new machine ships with the manufacturer’s warranty as standard — typically twelve to twenty-four months depending on the brand and the duty rating of the machine. Approved Used machines from our Leicester showroom carry the LLM Groundcare 180-day parts and labour warranty on top of any remaining manufacturer cover, plus the full 47-point pre-delivery inspection report we run on every used unit before it leaves us.

Service and warranty work is handled in-house at the Leicester workshop where possible, or by approved field engineers across the UK mainland. Parts are stocked for the brands we specialise in.

If something goes wrong, ring us first. We would rather sort it the same week than leave you with a machine that is costing you money to own.

Staged payment available on machines from £15,000. First payment from £5,000, balance by agreed instalments. Arranged directly with LLM Groundcare — no third-party finance company. Contact us to discuss terms for this machine.
