AS-Motor’s commercial rough-cut walk-behind

The AS 510 ProClip sits in AS-Motor’s UK pedestrian rough-cut range — 51 cm German-engineered deck, B&S Vanguard commercial engine, self-propel drive, designed specifically for cutting profiles that residential walk-behinds can’t sustain. The argument is rough-cut capability at walk-behind scale: where Honda HRG/HRX residential platforms clog on long grass and bracken margins, the AS 510 cuts cleanly and keeps cutting.

Where the AS 510 actually earns its keep

Two typical buyer profiles. First: small contractors and smallholders running rough-cut working profiles — paddock margins, drainage banks, bracken-edge cutting, scrub-regrowth maintenance — where the Honda HRG and HRX residential platforms genuinely don’t have the deck geometry or drivetrain for the working brief. The AS 510 is engineered for this duty cycle from the ground up. Second: slope-margin operators (rural property managers, smallholders with awkward bank cutting) where a Honda walk-behind would slip on wet ground but the AS-Motor’s heavier drivetrain and aggressive tread pattern keep traction.

The quieter argument: AS-Motor is genuinely the German specialist in rough-cut walk-behind kit. The brand doesn’t try to compete on amenity-lawn finish quality — they’ve ceded that ground to Honda and Husqvarna — and instead optimised the entire product line for the rough-cut working envelope where amenity-tier alternatives don’t operate cleanly.

Versus Honda HRD536 Pro and Honda HRG536

The £1,500-£2,000 commercial walk-behind tier splits across cutting briefs:

  • Honda HRG536 (£599): residential rotary, amenity-lawn finish, light commercial possible.
  • Honda HRD536 Pro (£1,495): commercial rotary, amenity-lawn finish, sustained working profile.
  • AS 510 ProClip (£1,895): rough-cut specialist, German build, slope/bracken margins.

For amenity-lawn cutting at any volume, Honda is the right answer. For rough-cut and slope work at walk-behind scale, AS-Motor is the right answer. Don’t try to substitute one for the other.

The tradeoff

Rough-cut format at walk-behind scale is physically demanding. The AS 510 is heavier than residential walk-behinds, the cutting load on the operator is higher, and slope work demands proper safety practice. For operators stepping up from residential rotary kit, expect a learning curve.

Built for commercial use. The buyer profile we sell this tier of machine to is the working groundskeeper, the landscaping contractor running multiple sites a week, the council parks team, and the larger rural estate doing its own grounds maintenance. The duty rating, the build, and the price all assume serious weekly hours.

If you are cutting under an acre once a fortnight, this machine is overspecified — we would point you to the consumer end of the market rather than take your money. If you are cutting one to twenty acres a week through the season, or maintaining sportsturf to club standard, you are in the right tier.

Ring us if you are not sure. We would rather lose the sale than sell you the wrong machine.

Mainland UK delivery on every machine, scheduled with you so the handover happens face to face. Highlands, Northern Ireland, and offshore quoted on enquiry. Every machine ships fully assembled, fuelled, oil-checked, and demoed at handover (see “How your mower arrives”, above).

Every new machine ships with the manufacturer’s warranty as standard — typically twelve to twenty-four months depending on the brand and the duty rating of the machine. Approved Used machines from our Leicester showroom carry the LLM Groundcare 180-day parts and labour warranty on top of any remaining manufacturer cover, plus the full 47-point pre-delivery inspection report we run on every used unit before it leaves us.

Service and warranty work is handled in-house at the Leicester workshop where possible, or by approved field engineers across the UK mainland. Parts are stocked for the brands we specialise in.

If something goes wrong, ring us first. We would rather sort it the same week than leave you with a machine that is costing you money to own.

Staged payment available on machines from £15,000. First payment from £5,000, balance by agreed instalments. Arranged directly with LLM Groundcare — no third-party finance company. Contact us to discuss terms for this machine.
